Which Topic Would Prompt an Argumentative Essay?

Which Topic Would Prompt an Argumentative Essay?I recently spoke with a fourth-year law student who had an assignment to write an essay on what topic would prompt an argumentative essay. The topic was instantly obvious - celebrities and controversy. After we got started, I couldn't help but think to myself: 'Will we ever get to a point where a law student will be able to write an argumentative essay? '...and then I realized how far we still have to go to that point. My student's article received some quite harsh criticism because of a couple of paragraphs that were in direct conflict with the author's political views and were also in direct conflict with the author's personal views (such as he is gay or something of that nature). I believe there is a strong possibility that the writer of the article did not properly acknowledge the conflict and thus had to make quite a few adjustments to his article to make it more acceptable to me.In international relations, the rule of thumb has bee n that if one side is taking a position that could potentially cause trouble for the United States, we must take that into consideration when developing our policies or reactions to problems and conflicts around the world. This approach to analysis is very important to the US National Security Strategy for 2020.Nevertheless, it does make sense that the right course of action in the long run is to try to work with those who have different viewpoints to us. A simple example would be a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East. We've gotten ourselves into a lot of trouble in the last couple of decades because of our refusal to get involved in world affairs, so there is a strong possibility that we are putting ourselves in a bit of a bind.If one were to take the position that a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East would lead to terrorism and military adventures in the region, it is highly likely that his student's article could easily become one of the most controversial arti cles in the history of legal writing, and that is a very good thing for our country. Remember that in a relatively short period of time, there has been a dramatic increase in social unrest in the Middle East. The rise of radical Islam and its ability to gain a large percentage of the population in both Iraq and Syria are both direct results of American policy, and the country has suffered a number of significant military defeats.I agree with the sentiment behind the student's essay, but I don't see a long-term solution to a problem with a nuclear-weapons-free zone in the Middle East. There's simply no way to get the people to agree that it's in their best interest to have these weapons anyway. And if you ask me, we are facing very challenging issues as of today. A war on terror or a war against Islamist extremism seems to be at hand, and unfortunately there's little we can do about it. The only thing we can do is to make sure we remain vigilant, even in the face of a threat that appe ars to be insurmountable.
